  4. Mongolia became a part of China in the 1600s until independence in 1911. • 1924 became the Mongolian People’s Republic and ruled with communism for 72 years. • 1989 began moving toward democracy.

  6. Economy of Mongolia • Nomadic lifestyles with camels, horses, cattle and goats used for cashmere. • Shifted to a market economy after communism. • Large deposits of coal, petroleum, copper, gold, and iron.

  10. Culture of Taiwan • Population is almost all Chinese with Chinese culture. • Buddhism temples and Chinese art. • Well educated people who speak Mandarin. • Opened to Western influences like baseball.

  11. Economy of Taiwan • One of the world’s most successful economies. • Few natural resources with strong manufacturing industries and trade. • Considered an economic tiger with rapid growth.
