GET YOUR ASSIGNED LAPTOP (CHECK SHEET ON TOP OF CART) • Login • Go the SHSD website • Click on 7th grade • Click on Mrs. Leonard • On the left side – click on Medieval Times Research Project • In the middle of the page under Resources for Research Paper click on and open Getting Started • Follow the instructions on the PPT If you complete all the tasks in the getting started PPT use your index cards and begin your research

  3. Gathering Information: Step 1 • Create and complete a 5 W’s H and R graphic organizer for your topic Example: Main Topic: The Holocaust

  4. Gathering Information: Step 2 • Based on the information in your G.O. identify your subtopics in an outline. (write this in your notebook or on a separate sheet of paper). This outline will be your guide for research. Example: Main Topic: The Holocaust Subtopic 1: What was the Holocaust? Subtopic 2: When did the Holocaust begin and end? Subtopic 3: Who was responsible for starting the Holocaust? Who were the victims of the Holocaust? Subtopic 4: How did the Holocaust come to an end? Subtopic 5: What are the results and consequences of the Holocaust? Is the world today still being affected by the Holocaust?

  5. Writing Your Thesis Statement • Use your outline to complete page 15 of your Research Paper and Report Writing handout and write your thesis statement. Remember your thesis statement is a sentence that tells briefly and clearly the central idea of a whole report or research paper. Example: The Holocaust was a very traumatic event that revealed how cruel humans can be when extremism is allowed to dominate society.
