What is an Apprenticeship? Defined as: A proven program that ensures a quality education by combining on-the-job training provided by an employer plus related classroom instruction to prepare the student for a high-demand career.
The Key: Apprentices “Earn & Learn” Apprentices Earn a salary at their job working with an experienced mentor while enrolled in an apprenticeship program at Harper College to Learn a specific career.
Why are apprenticeships coming back? • Federal push with focus on creating jobs • Bipartisan support from Department of Education, Department of Labor, Department of Commerce, The Whitehouse, and Business and Industry. • Companies said inability to find skilled employees limits their ability to grow

High School internship leads to apprenticeship • Offering an internship to High School students becomes a natural pipeline to find your apprentice • Gives students some exposure to the industry and your company to see if they like both • Opportunity for “extended interview” to work with a range of students to choose apprentices. • Internship opportunities can be paid or unpaid and for any length of time.
