Background information on the Japanese proposal to amend R48 for IWVTA (GRE-69-24)

This document outlines the background and purpose of the Japanese proposal to convert some devices from mandatory to optional in order to extend R48 type approval within the International Whole Vehicle Type Approval (IWVTA) system. It addresses the current situation of regulations for daytime running lamps (DRL), rear fog lamps (RFL), and headlamp cleaners (HLC), and discusses the need to align national regulations with R48. The proposed amendment aims to expand the reach of R48 type approval to more countries and vehicles.
