India especially, has witnessed a tremendous growth in startups, as of June 2022 there were 72,600 recognised startups and 103 Unicorns in India. There are a lot of factors that can be attributed to the rise in entrepreneurial ventures in India. You could attribute it to the increasing number of venture capitalists and angel investors or you could attribute it to a change in consumer behaviour who are now open to trying various product offerings in the market. However, one of the key driving factors behind the success of many new ventures is the increase in internet penetration. India has roughly 76.5 crore Internet users which is projected to reach 900 million by 2025. Given the huge amount of audience base on the internet, it has become an effective platform to target audiences and reach out to them. Traditionally marketing activities were restricted to television advertisements, print advertisements and other offline marketing activities which were incredibly expensive and inconvenient for anyone starting a new business.
