  4. Why these Five? • Communication, Recognition and Learning & Development are 3 key engagement drivers in Europe and managers have a considerable impact on each of them. If we are serious about Safety Leadership, managers need to be able to communicate their expectations, recognise exemplar behaviour and develop a culture of safety excellence • Teams will be engaged if they trust their leaders as role models for behaviour. By conveying a Clear Direction in terms ofthe vision, values and business objectives of the company we will have safer, more productive and motivated people. People want to feel that they have a stake in the organisation and can participate in decisions. • Effective performance management and Appraisal complements the other areas. It focuses on engagement and Safety drivers such as Performance Development, Involvement and Encouragement

Launch Programme Safety Leadership incorporating Focus on 5 themes - Design Summer 2014 - Delivery from August Focus on 5 booklets and website portal with video, booklets and other content - Design July – August - Launch at Managers’ Forum in September/ October Focus on 5 supported by new eLearning content - Design June – December - Launch January 2015 Focus on 5 Quarterly ‘pushes’ throughout 2015 - Managers to follow set safety/leadership learning throughout the year Focus on 5 evaluation Q4 2015
