  1. Compare and Contrast Compare and Contrast the basic principles of Hinduism and Buddhism.

  2. You may want to create Venn Diagram for each of the Basic Principles Venn Diagram You want to include a detail about each basic principle that is unique to each religion and a detail that is shared by the religions.

  3. Notes Chart

  4. Thesis Example Two of the major Eastern world religions, Hinduism and Buddhism, share many similarities and differences with regards to some of their basic principles.

  5. How should I organize my paper? • Any way you choose, but here are three ideas: • Whole-to-whole/Block strategy • Similarities to Differences • Point by Point

  6. Whole-to-Whole/Block • In this structure, you say everything about one item, then everything about the other. • For instance, say everything about the basic principles of Hinduism then everything about the basic principles of Buddhism. • The principles should be explained in the same order and reference the relationship to the other religion.

  7. Similarities to Differences • In this structure, you explain all the similarities about the items being compared and then you explain all the differences. • For instance, you might explain that the ultimate goal of two religions is similar in the one section. In the next section, you could explain that the founders were different. One founder is a man who found enlightenment, while the other was non-existent.

  8. Point by Point • In this structure, you explain one point of comparison and contrast before moving to the next point. • For instance, you would compare and contrast the founders of two religions; then you would compare and contrast the sacred texts in the next section. • For consistency, begin with the same item in each section of your point-by-point paper. For instance, for each point that you discuss, explain the information about Hinduism first and then about Buddhism.
