Introducing the Ministry • The Ministry of Macedonia and Thrace is the only regional ministry in Greece and it has an executive role in Macedonia and Thrace • Its aim is to implement efficiently the governmental policy to Northern Greece and mainly to promote development in the region. • Has adopted political extroversion • Actively participates in international networks and associations in order to promote the comparative advantages of the wider area HELLENIC REPUBLIC MINISTRY OF MACEDONIA AND THRACE

Introducing the Ministry • Promotes cooperation with European and International organizations • Seeks to develop cooperation with Regions abroad • Creates relationships with foreign counterparts in areas such as economy, environment, research and education, culture, youth and sports, innovation and technology • Exploits European funds by participating in European and Cross Border Cooperation Programmes HELLENIC REPUBLIC MINISTRY OF MACEDONIA AND THRACE

The directorate of Economy and Tourism Development • According to the no. 4083/2012 (A’ 189) law, directorate of Economy and Tourism Development manages 259 investment plans of a total budget of 1.693.229.168,48 E • It is expected that job positions in businesses will be preserved and new positions will be created HELLENIC REPUBLIC MINISTRY OF MACEDONIA AND THRACE

The directorate of Economy and Tourism Development • Market supervision in the areas of Macedonia and Thrace • Every product sold in the market must carry the appropriate legitimacy documents (ISO, Declaration of Conformity etc.) • Different areas of supervision include: • Building Materials • Low Voltage Equipment • Machinery • Toys HELLENIC REPUBLIC MINISTRY OF MACEDONIA AND THRACE

The directorate of environment and infrastructure • Characterizes buildings as preserved / neoclassical • Imposes special building conditions and restrictions to the preserved buildings and the adjacent area. • Performs the appropriate procedures so that preserved buildings are fully restored or are characterized as dangerous • Characterizes and protects traditional settlements HELLENIC REPUBLIC MINISTRY OF MACEDONIA AND THRACE

The Ministry’s Role to the Project • The Ministry of Macedonia and Thrace comes as the supreme political and policy making authority of Northern Greece to show the importance of the project for the next programming period and to cover that the actions are implemented in all the areas of the Greek eligible zone • The role of the Ministry is to take the role of the smart specialization for the region of East Macedonia and Thrace HELLENIC REPUBLIC MINISTRY OF MACEDONIA AND THRACE
