  6. Calcio Fiorentino was an early form of football that originated in 16th century Italy. The Piazza Santa Croce of Florence is the cradle of this sport, that became known as giuoco del calcio fiorentino ("Florentine kick game") or simply calcio ("kick").

  7. The official rules of calcio were published for the first time in 1580 and it was played in teams of 27, using both feet and hands. Goals could be scored by throwing the ball over a designated spot on the perimeter of the field. The playing field is a giant sand pit with a goal running the width of each end. There is a main referee, six linesmen and a field master.

  8. Each game is played out for 50 minutes with the winner being the team with the most points or 'cacce'. it was played in teams of 27, using both feet and hands. 9. Originally, calcio was reserved for rich aristocrats, who played every night between Epiphany and Lent. In the Vatican, even Popes, such as Clement VII, Leo XI and Urban VIII were known to play.

  10. The sport was not played for around two hundred years but then revived in the twentieth century when organized games began again in 1930. Today, three matches are played each year in Piazza Santa Croce, in the 3rd week of June.

  11. Here there are some important modern football characteristics and play schemes

  12. The football field

  13. The football field • The football field is the whole structure hosting the match. • It’s characterized by white lines which forms the areas, the penalty areas, the centre of the football field and the corners. • The white lines can be traced by a white chalk.

  14. The referee, the linesmen, and the fourth man

  15. The most important football schemes are: • 4-4-2 • 4-3-3 • 4-2-4 • You surely are informed about these schemes so we’re going just to mention them.

  16. 4-4-2 It’s the most used scheme in the football matches even if in the ’90s it was used as a defensive scheme. Nowadays it’s useful for creating an out-of-play tactics.

  17. 4-3-3- It’s not very used as a play scheme, but the most important characteristic is the attack play, according to which the attack player waits for a cross from the wings

  18. 4-2-4 Thanks to this scheme Brazil won the football world championship in 1958 showing that it was possible to play an attack game.

  19. How to become an observer of football…

  20. For becoming an observer of football there are no schools, degrees, courses. • So how can you become one? • It’s simple: you must be a football player! • Furthermore you must surf the net for watching as many matches as possible, for looking for new talents and their team addresses in order to keep in touch with them. • When you find an interesting player you should write to the football team for having a meeting date and propose your player. • Wishing that somebody answers you, your football player will be successful.
