  1. About Deer Hunting Clubs In The Southeast Deer hunters that visit the Southeast want to know that they are offered the best opportunities to leave with quality buck and their own trophy. The Southeast – states such as Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Virginia, for example – is famed for its great opportunities to hunt deer and other species that hunters travel miles for. The hunter that visits from afar needs every bit of information and help they can use to ensure they enjoy a memorable trip which, hopefully, they can repeat in the future. This is not always easy if you have to act on your own, without the input of other likeminded individuals or groups. That is why hunting clubs are so popular. These clubs simplify many important processes for hunters and their mates. Joining a hunting club, in Virginia, in South Carolina or Alabama for that matter, has advantages for hunters, which are not easily enjoyed when you act on your own. Well-organized clubs offer their members quality experiences through, for example, self- imposed limitations, for the benefit of all; they make sure that control is exercised so that everybody stays within certain limits and honor the rules – also those imposed by the landowner. When club members work well together, they all make their contribution to ensure that they support wildlife conservation principles and that they help improve deer quality where they have their lease. They help to plant food plots and improve forest stands; they share effort and expenses. These efforts lead to a bond of friendship, of camaraderie and security within the group. These are important reasons for the popularity of hunting clubs and for their ongoing success in many states. Of course a lot depends on how clubs are organized and governed to ensure its success and longevity, and for members to be happy to stay in the group. Some individuals, who may have been friends for some time, for example, may form a club and decide on the best way to run it. This is not always easy to do; therefore many hunters are looking to services that manage such clubs. In the Southeast there are a number of these agencies, or services, or wildlife consultants that offer members this management service. The experienced ones offer knowledge about the running of these clubs, and they understand what the expectations of landowners, whose leases are made available to hunting clubs, are. Therefore they are able to negotiate

  2. hunting leases that suit both the landowner and the club taking a lease for the purposes of hunting deer – or other animals – on his/her land. They will draw up a constitution, they will introduce those bylaws that govern behavior and responsibility, and they will help institute all rules and regulations so that these are understandable, fair to everybody and for everyone’s good. Some important provisions of a good hunting club normally include the name, the constitution, the objectives and aims of the club, responsibilities of members, meetings, the finances and scheduled payments as well as any other provisions that impact all members. It is important that management ensures that everybody abides by the rules, regulations and bylaws so that everybody benefits. Voting rights should be considered so that it may be possible to sanction a member that transgresses, and so that such members may be asked to leave. This can be done if a club is well administered, and preferably by a third party such as an outsourced consultant with good knowledge of wildlife management systems. This makes it easier for club members to cooperate with other members within a specific set of rules and regulations. When a club is managed well, members are always up to date with current and future regulations so that the club functions as a unit that respects everybody else’s contribution and presence. Hunting clubs can be successful, especially if they are managed well, in accordance with wildlife conservationist practices, and when members feel they all benefit equally from belonging to a certain club.
