  1. Hunting Clubs in The Southeast – A Popular Option Hunt clubs all over the United States – and other parts of the world – enjoy a great following, even though some individuals or groupings may not feel it is the best option for them, their families and whoever else they join when they prepare for a hunting trip to, say, one of the states in the Southeast where deer hunting is, for many, their preferred recreational activity during hunting season. Virginia deer hunting clubs, much like hunting clubs in Alabama, Mississippi and other Southern states, have become popular in recent times, mainly because of the generally good feedback received from members that join these clubs. The hunt club dates back to, for example, the 1960’s when more opportunities for this structure to grow started to be presented. More private lodges and wildlife conservationist services such as Alabama’s Westervelt Wildlife, which offers their services over a wide geographical area to include different states and counties in the Southeast, came forward to assist landowners with all important issues related to their hunting lands and leases – and hunting clubs. These companies and wildlife consultancies employ the services of wildlife biologists and other professionals that ensure they offer landowners their services to help them manage their deer herds, the land on which these animals roam, and the administration of deer hunting clubs, which enable the landowner to step back and leave this important service to those with the knowledge and experience to ensure they, the owners, benefit from dealing with them. Hunting clubs in the Southeast came into being when timber companies – such as Westervelt and others – started offering hunting leases to the public and visiting hunters from within their own states, but also to hunters from neighboring states and also much further out, as word started spreading about the great hunting opportunities available in the region, and the possibility to join a hunting club, which many hunters started to see as a great opportunity to simplify their own efforts and leaving all administrative issues to a company with the expertise in this regard. Virginia deer hunting clubs – and clubs in other states of the Southeast – suddenly offered hunters various options and possibilities to visit the region they like, a region with good deer herds, facilities at, for example, good hunting lodges, and an opportunity to join a club that ensures they are able to hunt without having to do all the research themselves, hoping to find a hunting destination that meets all reasonable expectations and allows the hunter the opportunity to leave with prize trophies and quality meat. Owners, but especially management companies, started leasing out the rights to hunt to the public, which would lead to hunting clubs being created, offering membership to the hunters visiting the region. Where these clubs – in Virginia, Georgia and others – are managed well, they have policies in place to ensure all members reap the benefits of joining one of these clubs, such as offering a well-managed lease with very little research about the region, or best destinations, required for the hunter looking for a great hunt. Hunt clubs are normally offered on lands which are used for, say, timber production and farming activities as main source of income for the owner, with hunting an added, additional income. This is where good control and proper management skills come in handy, especially when offered by a consultancy offering experience and the success with which they administer these hunting clubs. Hunt clubs have, generally speaking, a higher density of hunters on a tract of land, but they are also not as expensive as a lease you organize privately with the landowner. As member of such a club, you also have fewer individual responsibilities since the group absorbs so many of these. The hunting club – in the Southeast and elsewhere in America – is becoming more popular than ever and continues to grow for the benefit of both the landowner and the hunter.
