  2. FIELD TRIPS!!!! • NEXT Wednesday March 6, 2013 • All day…meet in the HOP at 8:30 • Back to school for debriefing around 3:00 • See with your own eyes • The issues you are researching • Contributing factors • The people who are living these issues • The experts working to find solutions

  3. Some things to keep in mind • We made the BEST match we could. Even if it’s not a perfect match, there is much to be learned. For example, you can… • deepen your understanding of India, your issue, and the indirect factors that contribute to it; • Practice your interviewing skills!

  4. A Few Logistics Your lead chaperone for the tripwill give you a permission slip to take home today. Turn in the signed permission slip to your lead chaperone tomorrow during advisory when we meet again at the HOP. If you feel you have been poorly assigned based on your research topic, see Ms. Dattaafter school on Thurs in M 310 until 4:oo today.

  5. Tuesday’s advisory During Tuesday’s advisory, you will meet with the Lead Chaperone for your trip. There you will get more specific info about what to expect and what to bring.

  6. Field Trip 1: Yamuna River Walk Visit 3 locations along the Yamuna in Delhi See the harmful ways that the citizens, the city, and industry pollute this river Observe air pollution around the places we visit. Consider causes and effects. Visit the Paharpur Business Center to learn more about indoor pollution.

Field Trip 2: Field trip 2 :Education and Slum Communities Visit to a School in Tigiri run by the HOPE Foundation Learn about daily life and issues facing children and families in India Meet and talk with students See how opportunity and challenges are faced by the school and the students Visit students in their homes and have a chance to interview them

Field Trip 3: HIV and Health • Sahara Women and Child Care Home • See the care and treatment of child and maternal health issues and patients with HIV/AIDS • ICTC (Integrated counseling and testing center) • Raising awareness about HIV/AIDS • Preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS • Supporting those living with the virus

Field Trip 4: Child and Bonded Labor • Mukhti Ashram • Learn about child trafficking and what is being done to help children who have been trafficked • Visit the UN’s International Labor Organization (ILO) • Salaam Balak Trust Walk • A tour of Paharganj led by former street children • Learn about the causes and effects of how kids end up on the streets and what’s being done about it

Trip 5: Health and Sanitation • Sulabh Toilet Museum and Training Centre • Visit the leading organization in Delhi developing new systems of waste removal in the country and educating the ragpickers • Asha Foundation • Community empowerment programs in slums • Slum development programs • Family planning education • Maternal and infant health

  16. Field trip 6:Microfinance and Economics The students will be visiting the international labor organization and the Ford Foundation to get information about the financial implications on population growth.

Collecting Data • Your trip MIGHT provide an opportunity to collect data for your Independent Investigation. • Ask yourself, will there be… • People to interview? • People you could survey? • Photographs you could take? • Be sure to get contact information for any location or person that might be helpful later once you begin this task of the PoP.

  19. Behavior Guidelines Dress appropriately. Be respectful to others & the environment. Be prepared with paper, pencils and your PoP folder. Bring your own lunch, drink, and snacks. Wear the right footwear. Take care of belongings. Be respectful when taking photos.

  20. Reflection #4 Once you return from the trip, you will be expected to complete Reflection #4 for your portfolio, which will ask you to consider your experience and your learning from the trip. You will give this to your lead chaperone.
