  5. Addressing continuity and change History is a study of change over time Need also to consider how things stay the same Example: After the break-up of the Roman Empire, political boundaries in Europe are different, however, the language and religion of Rome continue on to shape medieval Europe

  6. Thematic Approach: Comparing and contrasting Identifying a concept, area, or event and examining how this is similar or different in another time and/or location Example: studying the concept of Empire as way to examine the 7th grade standards
