  5. Course description • Intercultural communicative theory • Its practical principles • Cultural influence on language learning and intercultural interaction • Cultural values and way of thinking • Patterns of verbal and nonverbal communication • The social and business context

  6. Course Objectives • Increase cultural awareness and sensitivity • Develop effective strategies in dealing with cultural conflicts • Improve intercultural communicative competence

  7. Teaching Assumptions • “Go fishing” instead of “come & buy fish” • Student-centered • task-based • process-oriented • cooperative & experiential learning • learning by doing

Three part of the course • Teacher’s topic-classified lectures to deal with the knowledge; • Students’ task-based experience to learn by doing;(reading, group discussion, oral presentation, role plays, simulations etc.) • Team-performed outcome to share students’ findings and demonstrate their capabilities (group presentation)

  13. Group projects • Make a case study of an Intercultural film or TV programs on an intercultural topic, inviting exchange overseas students to join in your group. • Report your research result to the class, including a presentation of a short play related to the case study.
