  2. Transportation Seattle’s transportation has been having issues for a long time. We are replacing , building, and rebuilding many transportation systems. The Seattle Sound Transit Light Rail was extended in 2009 to travel from the Seattle SeaTac Airport to Downtown Seattle, and will soon be extended to the University of Washington two miles from our school. At 14 miles long, the Light Rail provides another good transportation option. http://theolympiareport.com/auditor-will-probe-sound-transits-projections/ http://www.thetransportpolitic.com/2009/07/20/seattles-light-rail-opens-redefining-life-in-the-city/

  3. 520 Bridge ConstructionI go on the 520 bridge everyday. Since so many people drive on the 520 bridge everyday the government decided to put a toll on the bridge. Now the government wants to expand the bridge. So they are currently doing construction on the bridge to make a third lane. I think all this commotion on the bridge is making people not want to drive on 520 anymore. This is why I-90, the other bridge that crosses Lake Washington, is getting lots of traffic everyday because people want to avoid the toll and the construction on 520.

  4. Alaskan Way Viaduct

  5. Viaduct Replacement • The Alaskan Way Viaduct is major road way in Seattle. • It was first built in 1959. • It is two different road ways right above each other. • It is being taken down because Seattle is prone to earthquakes and if there was one, the top road way would collapse on the bottom. • We are replacing it with a tunnel (see diagram).

  6. Elwha Dam Removal Project The construction for the Elwha Dam began in 1910. -The construction was finished in 1913. -It was demolished in 2012. -It is 105 Ft tall. -The dam is located on Clallam County, WA, USA -Drives salmon away from their home. - “Confining migrating salmon to the lowest 4.9 miles of river” http://www.elwhainfo.org/elwha-river-watershed/dam-removal/history-elwha-and-glines-canyon-dams

  7. This picture is the Glines Canyon Dam. As you can see they have taken it down so the water can flow though. This is one of the dams that is on the Elwha.

  8. Another dam was removed in Eastern Washington: On October 26, 2011, crews packed more than 700 pounds of dynamite into the base of Condit Dam on the White Salmon River in southwest Washington. Once detonated, the White Salmon River erupted through the hole, draining the reservoir behind the dam in less than an hour.

  9. National Basketball Association Sonics to Return To Seattle? http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=Basket+Ball&view=detail&id=9673F9481C2D84B1C24E3F4554AE7E3430BF4513&first=0&qpvt=Basket+Ball&FORM=IDFRIR

  10. About The Sonics In 2006 the Seattle Sonics Basketball team was bought out by Clay Bennett. It was finally official in 2008 that they were moving to Oklahoma to play basketball. Chris Hansen has offered to build a new stadium for the Sonics to play basketball in. Now there is a chance that the Seattle Sonics will return to their home…Seattle http://www.google.com/imgres?q=Seattle+Sonic&um=1&hl=en&client=firefox-a&sa=N&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&biw=1280&bih=645&tbm=isch&tbnid=kPPoaaItAiDZlM:&imgrefurl=http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/flatpages/sports/sonics/wallpaper.html&docid=rluL72BKTIoIdM&imgurl=http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/art/sports/sonics/wallpaper/1280x1024.jpg&w=1280&h=1024&ei=VDCgT_OAA4bciQK-9tCnAg&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=199&vpy=331&dur=2935&hovh=201&hovw=251&tx=140&ty=93&sig=106155746947713931030&page=1&tbnh=138&tbnw=208&start=0&ndsp=18&ved=1t:429,r:12,s:0,i:95

  11. Reasons Why • There are already fans in Seattle, so they don’t have to earn them • There was a proposal to build a stadium for them • Seattle is a prosperous community and will eventually get a basketball team • Restaurants are losing business because there is no sports attractions to come down town • The closest NBA game is in Portland and that costs more than 50 dollars. http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=Seattle+Sonics&view=detail&id=0CB0EC06FDCA03ACAAC6CDFA218FBDA9C775C02D&first=0&FORM=IDFRIR

  12. Will Stacey Dies In Afghanistan • On January 31st, 2011, former University Prep student, Sergeant Will Stacey, was killed in Afghanistan. Although the sergeant was only 23 years old, he had already been deployed 3 times. In a recent interview Stacey’s father, Robert said, "He died saving others.  No one else was hurt, and that's the way he would have wanted it. Parents lose their children.  It is a fact of life.  Sometimes it happens with a car accident, sometimes it is because they did something stupid, and in this case, it is because of war.  Unfortunately, we are now part of a group of parents who have lost a child in Afghanistan."

  13. As a tribute to the late marine, his former high school, Roosevelt, stitched his name into their baseball hats. The school will also sell the hats and donate a portion to the Will Stacey Foundation to build a baseball field in Seattle.

  14. Stacey’s death made national news because of a letter he left for his fiance. He said, “If my life buys the safety of a child who will one day change this world, then I know that it was all worth it.” We are sadly reminded of the tragic cost of war. Will C. Stacey will definitely be missed.
