Planning for volunteer involvement • Be clear about your reasons for involving volunteers • Think about why people might want to volunteer for your organisation • Establish that you have the resources to support volunteers • Be clear what volunteers will contribute to the aims and objectives of the organisation

  4. Developing a volunteer role • Focus on what is positive about your organisation • Why should someone choose your organisation over another? • What is special or distinctive about volunteering with your organisation? • What will a volunteer get out of the opportunity you are offering?

  5. Advertising a volunteer role • Consider where you want to advertise • Traditional or social media? • Radio, press…. • Who are you targeting? • Volunteer Centres – access to do-it.org.uk • Use a variety of methods and approaches • Record which is most successful and repeat!

  6. Application and selection • Application or registration form – with care! • Informal chat • Structured interview • References – with caution! • Decision making • Feeding back • Record keeping
