Scripps Research Institute Biotech Academy: Bridging Science and Education

The Scripps Research Institute and Palm Beach County School District have partnered to create the Seminole Ridge Biotech Academy, a rigorous college preparatory program that offers students the opportunity to explore career possibilities in the biotechnology industry. Students will have access to state-of-the-art labs, internships, and college credits. This program aims to provide rigor, relevance, and hands-on experience to prepare students for post-secondary studies and careers in biotechnology. Scripps Announced the Scripps Florida Project • School District quickly moved to change plans of the newest high school (Seminole Ridge) to include a biotech academy. • PBC Ed Commission organized a K-20 team to visit Scripps, La Jolla. • Visits to the top biotech academies in the country – Boston, San Mateo and San Diego. • Combined the best of the labs and programs to develop Seminole Ridge Academy – opening 8/05.

  3. The Scripps Research Institute Summer 2004 Two teachers spent the summer along side researchers in La Jolla. This summer, two teachers and three students will spend the summer with research scientists at the FAU Campus.

The Scripps Research Institute BIOTECHNOLOGY CAREER ACADEMY - - Covers biomanufacturing technology from microbiology to aseptic techniques, cell cultures, immunoassay, protein and enzyme assays, DNA applications, quality control, agriculture applications, aquaculture, hydroponics, etc. This program will be a choice program open to all students in Palm Beach County. It is a rigorous college preparatory program in which a student earns college credits while in high school. This program will provide rigor and relevance for the students.
