  1. And yet I will show you the most excellent way.

  2. 1Corinthians 13:1-13 (NIV) • 1 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.

  3. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.

  4. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

  5. 4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

  6. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

  7. 8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

  8. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears.

  9. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.

  10. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

  11. 13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

  12. (Love) always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres

  13. Always: All encompassing • Everything, in every way, all the time

  14. Love always trusts

  15. Pisteuo (pist·yoo·o): • to think to be true, to be persuaded of, to credit, place confidence in, to entrust

  16. Matthew 14:22-33 (NIV) • 22 Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd.

  17. 23 After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone,

  18. 24 and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.

  19. 25 Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.

  20. 27 But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” • 28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” • 29 “Come,” he said.

  21. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”

  22. 31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” • 32 And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down.

  23. 33 Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

  24. Love always hopes

  25. Romans 8:28 (NIV) • And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

  26. Love always perseveres

  27. Hupomeno (hoop·om·en·o): • To remain under

  28. Love never fails.

  29. 27 But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

  30. 31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

  31. Love never fails because God is love and God never fails!
