  1. 145 th Street Short Stories Cycle 2, Day 6 Writing project: conversation between two people

  2. Think-Pair-Share In the story “Angela’s Eyes,” how did the people in the neighborhood find out about Angela’s dreams? In “The Streak,” why did people give Jamie a hard time after the first game? How did they all know that he had missed the shot? In “Kitty and Mack: A Love Story,” how does Mack find out that Kitty is staying home from school waiting for him? When things happen in your neighborhood or in your school, how do people tend to find out about them?

  3. Writing Prompt The people on 145th Street seem to know one another pretty well. They talk about what is happens in the personal lives of the people around them. Imagine that you live on 145th Street. Choose what happens to Angela, Jamie, or Mack and Kitty and write a dialogue between you and a friend talking about what happened. Think of what the people in the stories might have said when they were talking about them. Be sure to use correct punctuation.

  4. Sample Graphic Organizer

  5. Example Start “Hey girl, did you catch that game yesterday?” I asked my friend Donna. She answered, “No, why? Did Jamie blow the whole game again?” I told her all about the great play Jamie made at the buzzer, “It was so exciting! We were on the edge of our seats. Everyone held their breath as the buzzer sounded and we watched the ball sail up toward the basket.” “Man, that sounds so exciting. It figures I would be grounded and stuck at home during the most exciting game of the year.” “Yeah, Donna, you sure missed a good one. You want to hear something even crazier?”

  6. Reflection What do you think would happen to Mack if Kitty didn’t stay home from school? Why does Mack say Kitty needs someone who is more of a man than he is? Does love have to involve sacrifice? How much is too much? Homework: complete Read, Reflect, and Respond side of homework paper.
