Lüneburg • Six Year Two students visited 25th -30th October 2009 as visitors of Leuphana University, Lüneburg • The visit was used to gain 20 credits for a level 2 module • There was input from CCCU and Leuphana lecturers. • Students on the visit took part in all aspects of the school and cultural visits arranged by CCCU and Leuphana lecturers

General Aims of visit: For students to work together • to learn something about the history, environment and culture of the area and its impact on the education of Lower Saxony • to enhance knowledge and understanding of school curricula and practice in Lower Saxony • to reflect on own professional contexts and practice. ‘Making the familiar strange’ • to learn from other contexts, other ways of ‘doing’ and from practitioners and students

  4. The Independent Study module (level 2) • It involved preparation and reading (2 twilight sessions in the UK) • Visits to a range of schools (5) within Lüneburg, • Seminar work: Reflections, group work, discussions, writing, reading and maintaining a reflective journal throughout the visit • Cultural visits and talks from host university • Assignment to be completed on return

  5. School visits:Heiligengeistschulein Lüneburg • Draws pupils from city. • 6-10 yrs • Large number of refugees • Speech and Language unit

  6. Schule am Knieberg • Children with severe disabilities Age 6-18

  7. HauptschuleStadtmitte • UNESCO school • Pupils 11-18 • Large numbers of immigrants/refugees

  8. Private Gymnasium • 250 pupils. 2 form entry • Smaller classes • 8.30 – 3.30pm • 50% subsidised by state

  9. Kindergruppen Die Kube • Started by parents • No standard curriculum • Each child has a folder with evidence of achievements

  10. Independent study-using every hour! Breakfast! Coffee break
