Cardiovascular Disease in Louisiana • In 2009, 80 million American adults (1 in 3) were estimated to have one or more types of cardiovascular disease, including: • High blood pressure • Coronary heart disease • Heart failure • Stroke • Congenital cardiovascular defects • Cardiovascular disease is the #1 killer in America, with an average of one death every 36 seconds. • The State of Louisiana has the 4th greatest prevalence of cardiovascular disease in the nation. • Cardiovascular disease, including heart disease and stroke, was the #1 killer of Louisianans in 2005, accounting for 31% of all deaths.
