  1. Warm Up April 7, 2011 Read Pgs 446-447 and pgs 454-456. When you finish reading come up to the ugly green desk and grab a Mexican-American War/Manifest Destiny sheet. Copy the questions in your notes and explain your answers clearly.

  2. Warm Up April 7, 2011 What do you think your destiny is in this world? Take some time write what you think your destiny is?

  3. What is Manifest Destiny? Manifest Destiny- Term used to describe America’s desire to expand out west.

  4. Can we compare Manifest Destiny to other things in history?

  5. Primary Sources The American claim is by the right of our manifest [obvious] destiny to overspread and possess the whole of the continent which Providence has given us for the development of the great experiment of liberty and….self- government entrusted to us” -John L. O’Sullivan “What the heck did I just say!?!?!?!”

  6. “Now we ask, whether any man can coolly contemplate the idea of recalling our troops from the [Mexican] territory we at present occupy...and...resign this beautiful country to the custody of the ignorant cowards and profligate ruffians who have ruled it for the last twenty-five years? Why humanity cries out against it. Civilization and Christianity protest against this reflux of the tide of barbarism and anarchy.” New York Evening Post, 1848 “Say what?!??!?!?!”
