  6. Cusco is a city in southeastern Peru near the Urubamba Valley in the Andes. It lies at an altitude of 3,400 m and has over 400,000 inhabitants. From the 13th century until the conquest by the Spanish at the beginning of the 16th century, Cusco was the capital of the Inca Empire. Subsequently, it became the center of the spread of Christianity in the Andean region. The Spanish replaced the indigenous temples with Catholic churches. They used the remaining walls as foundations for their buildings. On HatunRumiyoq Street, one can see the "Stone of Twelve Angles", which is considered a marvel of ancient stonework. Due to its antiquity and importance, the center of the city has preserved many buildings, squares, streets and churches from colonial times. Even some pre-Columbian structures. In 1983, Cusco was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
