Strengthening Food and Nutrition Security through Poultry-Crop Integration

This presentation discusses the NKUKU4U project, which aims to enhance chicken-crop systems as a sustainable solution to nutritional challenges in Tanzania. The project involves interdisciplinary and multisectoral collaboration, including data collection from households, vaccination against Newcastle Disease, promotion of good agricultural practices, and nutrition promotion. Results include a reduction in cases of Newcastle Disease, increased chicken-keeping participation and flock size, improved child nutrition, and increased crop yields. Success factors include commitment and cooperation, integration of interventions, and support from authorities and community leaders. Challenges include weather conditions, participant dropouts, chicken diseases, and vaccination difficulties.
