  4. Science Binders • This year we will be focusing on finding those missing puzzle pieces to help your child succeed! • This is a 3-ring binder that will hold your child’s workbook, notes and some assignments. • *This can stay in the classroom! Can also go home often • This holds everything we will be doing in this class. It should help your child stay organized and have everything in one spot. • *Should there ever be a question about your child’s standard mark—this will help us figure out a solution! • Please ask your child to bring their science binder home!

  5. IQWST Curriculum • I - Investigating • Q- Questioning • W- World • S- Science • T- Technology IQWST- engages students in scientific practices as they experience, investigate and explain phenomena.

  6. All Of This Is Done Through NGSS • Core Ideas= Content part • Scientific Practices& Engineering= doing part • Cross Cutting Concepts=connecting part • Performance Expectations= assessing part Together these strategies allow students to build understanding by making connections of how/why the Natural World works.

  7. Physics “How Will It Move?”8.03 • Students gain a deeper understanding of how forces influence motion, how to describe motion and the relationship between forces and energy. Throughout the unit students will construct and use models through evidence based reasoning to explain that forces are the cause of any change.

  8. Chemistry “How Does Food Provide My Body With Energy?” 8.02 • This unit targets ideas in the context of living systems. Students gain a deeper understanding of how food provides energy transformations and building materials for organisms on a molecular level. Students will design investigations, gather and analyze data in a way that allows valid results to support scientific explanations.

  9. Genetics- “Why Do Organisms Look The Way They Do?” 8.02 • This unit is divided into heredity, variation and natural selection. Students focus on individual organisms, species and populations in order to answer why orgamisms look the way they do. • Students will blend IQWST content and NGSS performance expectations to target their learning outcomes in all three units.

  10. PBIS Positive Behavior Interventions and Support The following will be part of PBIS on the SLP: Daily Work Homework Behavior

  11. 12. Planners/Assignment Notebooks Please make sure your child has a planner/assignment notebook, so we can help teach them organizational skills! Please check this often to ensure your child is keeping up with their homework. The key to success is being organized!!

  13. Thank you for coming  I’m really looking forward to working with your children as they are our future scientists, mathematicians and engineers in the making 
