  1. Overcoming a Disability Using Technology to Teach Students with Learning Disabilities By Jessica Valentin

  2. How do we know if a child has a learning disability? • According to many websites, almost all students have difficulty in school at some time or another. These difficulties may be in, but are not limited to, mathematics, reading and language arts, science, and social studies. Some of the difficulties they may have are with their memory, attention, concentration, organizational skills, etc. If a child has problems with one or more of these behaviors, there is a chance they may have a learning disability.

  3. Is there a problem for teachers who have these students in their classes? • According to http://www.ldonline.org , there are more and more students who are being diagnosed as having a learning disability each year. This poses a problem for teachers, because many teachers have not been trained to deal with students whom have mild to severe learning disabilities. This causes a need for teachers to educate themselves on the problems these students may experience. It is important for these teachers to do a thorough job with their own education because they may single handedly discourage these students from continuing and destroying their education.

  4. How can we learn more about teaching these kids with special needs? • The website, http://www.ldonline.org gives information new technologies developed for students and teachers to use to overcome learning disabilities. It also provides information on tools that we may even take for granted relating to students with a learning disability. There are tools that these special students can use in order to overcome their disability.

  8. In conclusion… Teaching is an all-consuming profession. You think about it day and night. You are always on the watch for new ideas and things that will work for you and your classroom. Teaching to those who learn differently than most is an even more strenuous activity. You can never have too much information on how to help these kids and even yourself. Technology should always be a part of the classroom, but first it needs to be a part of you.
