  1. Drum and Grippers

  2. Drum • The drum assembly is comprised of: • Main structure • Vacuum segments and tubing • Grippers assembly • Load piston • Unload piston • Drum encoder Confidential

  3. Drum Main Structure • The drum structure is made up of: • Drum shaft • Drum skin • Vacuum segments from composed materials (Par-beam) • Gripper middle support Confidential

  4. Drum Main Structure (Cont.) • Drum shaft – holds the drum on the chassis. Confidential

  5. Drum Main Structure (Cont.) • Drum skin • Composed of 6 different layers of carbon and glue materials • Can be heated to up to 70ºC • Circumference accuracy of ±0.3 mm Confidential

  6. Vacuum manual valve Drum Main Structure (Cont.) • Drum's vacuum segments: • Total of 13 vacuum segments. • Every vacuum segment is assembled from two parts that are connected together inside the drum structure. • All the segments are assembled inside the drum’s skin. • Controlling a total of 12 levels of vacuum (1.6, 1.8, 2.0, 2.2, ……3.7m) by manual valves that are assembled on the drum's left side. Confidential

  7. Drum’s skin Vacuum segments Vacuum segments inside the drum’s skin Drum Main Structure (Cont.) • Drum’s vacuum segments Confidential

  8. Drum Main Structure (Cont.) • Gripper middle support Confidential

  9. Vacuum Segments and Sections • Vacuum segments enable the control the vacuum areas. • Vacuum is controlled by manual valves, on the drum's left side. Confidential

  10. Vacuum Segments and Sections (Cont.) • The vacuum is divided by the segments as follows: • Segment 1 controls the vacuum for 0 - 1.6 m • Segment 2 controls the vacuum for 1.6 - 1.8 m • Segment 3 controls the vacuum for 1.8 - 2.0 m • Segment 4 controls the vacuum for 2.0 - 2.2 m • Segment 5 controls the vacuum for 2.2 - 2.4 m • Segment 6 controls the vacuum for 2.4 - 2.6 m • Segment 7 controls the vacuum for 2.6 - 2.8 m • Segment 8 controls the vacuum for 2.8 - 3.0 m • Segment 9 controls the vacuum for 3.0 - 3.2 m • Segment 10 controls the vacuum for 3.2 - 3.4 m • Segment 11 controls the vacuum for 3.4 - 3.6 m • Segment 12 controls the vacuum for 3.6 m and further Confidential

  11. Vacuum manual valve Vacuum Sections Confidential

  12. Drum Gripper • Grippers are metal fingers which are assembled on the same shaft and catch the substrate during loading. • Grippers can be opened during loading by activating the load piston. • Grippers can be opened during unload by activating the unload piston. • Grippers are lifted by raising a metal cam which is located on left side of the drum. • By deactivating the load or un-load pistons, the grippers will be self lowered by the power of springs, which are assembled along the gripper shaft. Confidential

  13. Gripper fingers Gripper shaft Metal cam Drum Gripper (Cont.) Confidential

  14. Load/Unload Pistons • The load and unload pistons preps are to lift the metal cam in order to open the gripper fingers, either for loading or unloading purposes. • The load and unload pistons are assembled on the drum shaft and can be accessed for service from the ink cabinet side. • The pistons can be adjusted on the drum’s shaft in order to change the load or unload angels. • The load or unload pistons are controlled from the machine’s I/O system. Confidential

  15. Load piston Unload piston Load/Unload Pistons (Cont.) Confidential

  16. Metal cam Unload piston Load piston Load/Unload Pistons (Cont.) Confidential

  17. Drum Encoder • The drum’s encoder is located on the right side of the drum (drum motor side). • The drum encoder includes the following parts: • Adaptor plate, RGS ring and scale ~125,000 pulses/mm • RGM Home signal interrupt (magnet) • RGR Optic read head • Read head holder • Encoder cover and protection Confidential

  18. Encoder cover and protection Optic read head and holder Adaptor plate, encoder ring & scale and magnet sensor for home interrupt Drum Encoder (Cont.) Confidential

  19. Optic read head and holder Drum Encoder (Cont.) • The optic read head holder allows easy fine adjustments of the optic read head above the encoder scale, in order to achieve maximum accuracy and best performance from the drum movement. Confidential
