Use of Administrative Registers in Production of Statistics Different ways of using administrative data in statistics • Register-based statistics • Statistics produced by using (administrative) registers only • Data from other sources may be used indirectly Example: Censuses in Nordic countries • Statistics combining register data and sample surveys Example: Dutch virtual census • Statistics combining register data and data from (census) forms • Register data used in sample surveys • Sampling frames • Improve information (editing, coding, imputation, estimation) • Additional information (some variables collected from registers) • Non-response studies
