  3. Design Process • Study the target audience – who are your users? • Identify various information elements • Study the user’s work flow • Layout the various information elements based on their characteristics • Highlight critical information • Think visually

  4. Exercise 2 • Design an Information device for amateur trekkers giving information of the following: • Map • Trekking gear • Information on forts in Sahyadri region

  6. Trekking Gear • Backpack – 5 Kg • Jacket – 0.5 Kg • Tent – 4.2 Kg • Rock climbing gear – 2.8 Kg • Poles – 200 gm each pole • First aid kit – 1 Kg • Night accessories – torch, night lamp, etc – 1 Kg

Sinhgad Fort • Fort size is large – semicircular (arc is about 220 degrees) fort with deep valley on diameter side, built around 1340 AD • Khadakvasla, 25-km From Pune • 4000 ft above sea level • Rock climbing possible from 2 points • South climb - level of difficulty is high – about 90 degree climb • North climb – level of difficulty is medium – about 45 degree climb • Trekkers: 2 trek paths • One leading to south-west valley – about 12 kms, approx. 6 hours, medium, wildlife-panther/jungle fox, night trek • One leading towards north – about 14 kms, approx. 5 hours, medium, no wildlife, night trek, food/medical/water available on the way • Day café, Medical center, Night lodging, Phone available • Attractions: Water-well, Tanaji’s Samadhi, Konkan Valley, Ideal for daylong picnic and sight seeing • Climate: ideal to trek in rainy/winter season, day/night temp: 35/18(average)

Panhala Fort • Fort size is large – Hexagonal in shape, built around 1200 AD • Goregon, 18-km Northwest To Kolhapur • 3500 ft above sea level • Rock climbing possible from 3 points – level of difficulty is medium – about 50 degree climb • Trekkers: 2 trek paths • One leading to Konkan kada valley – about 11 kms, approx. 7 hours, difficult, wildlife-panther/jungle fox, night trek not recommended for ameteurs • One leading towards south – about 14 kms, approx. 5 hours, easy, no wildlife, night trek, no food/medical on the way • Day café, No medical center, No night lodging, No Phone • Attractions: Teen Darwaza, Amberkhana granary, Raj Dindi, Parshurama Temple • Climate: ideal to trek during winter, day/night temp: 30/12(average)

Lohgad/Visapur Fort • Fort size is large – traingular in shape, built around 1800 BC • Malavali, 52-km south-west of Pune • 3400 ft above sea level • Rock climbing possible from 1 point – level of difficulty is easy – about 25 degree climb • Trekkers: 3 trek paths • One leading to North – about 5 kms, approx. 4 hours, difficult, no wildlife, 1-km ridge needs climbing gear, night trek not recommended for ameteurs • One leading towards south-east – about 8 kms, approx. 4 hours, medium – mountainous region, occasional wildlife can be seen, night trek, no food/medical on the way • One leading through rocky portions, north-east Ganesh darwaja side, can see lot of waterfalls on the way, difficult, 9 kms, 5 hours • Day café, No medical center, Night lodging, Land Phone • Attractions : 4 doors - the Ganesh Darwaja, the Narayan Darwaja, the Hanuman Darwaja and the Maha Darwaja • Climate: ideal to trek in rainy/winter season, day/night temp: 40/18(average)
