  1. Five Challenges that People face at my Place: New Mexico

  2. New Mexico is great, but like any other country or state there is problems New Mexico is a wonderful state full of culture, curiosity, amazement, and overall happiness. This is where New Mexico got its name “The land of enchantment.” Although that is true New Mexico has problem which need improvement.

  3. Some problems include: • 1. Graduation rate • 2. Teen pregnancy • 3. Drunk driving • 4. Mortalities due to drugs • 5. Bad schools

  4. Graduation Rate • New Mexico has a very low graduation rate of tertiary education (high school.) For a while there was improvement then New Mexico clashed into having the lowest high school graduate rate as of the 2012-2013 school year. • The years of improvement were from the years 2011 and 2012 which graduation rate went to 70.3% instead of the previous 63% • Sadly, as of the 2012-2013 school year New Mexico has the lowest graduation rate, barely over 50%, ranked at 59.4%

  5. Teen Pregnancy • New Mexico has the highest teen pregnancy of all the 50 states that are part of the USA • New Mexico ranks 50th in both teen pregnancy and teen birth rate • As well as 36th in unplanned pregnancy • In 2008 there is a recorded 6,850 teen pregnancies from ages 15-19, and the number keeps growing • There was $118 million spent on teen childbearing during the year 2008

  6. Drunk Driving • New Mexico has previously had major issues with drunk driving, and to a lesser extent today • There are 54,033 third time DWI/DUI offenders and 13712 fifth time offenders

  7. Mortalities due to Drugs • New Mexico has the second highest rates of drug related mortalities. • As of 2010 23.8 out of 100,000 people die from drugs in New Mexico.

  8. Bad Schooling • New Mexico has the 3rd worst education rate of the 50 states • The high school graduation rate is the lowest at 59.4% • The per pupil expenditure is not the worst but ther is room for improvement, $10,547 (22nd lowest) is the per pupil expenditure • New Mexico’s preschool enrollment is very low at 38.4% (6th lowest) • The overall letter score of the New Mexico school system was D+ which is the only state with a grade that low besides Nevada • New Mexico middle school generally score least proficient in mathematics and reading on national test scores.

  9. In Conclusion… New Mexico needs improvement in many things but come to the state of New Mexico and you will see why locals still love the state regardless of the problems that arise!
