  1. Good Evening and Welcome! The 8th-grade has a new website: http://fqms8thgrade.hcpss.wikispaces.net/ This site will be the primary form of communication for all eighth-grade information and events.

  2. Mrs. Dvornicky’sPeriod 2, 3, & 4 Classes Five Key Points for parents of 8th Grade Geometry GT Students:

  3. http://teacherweb.com/md/fqms/mrsdvornicky 5. My teacherweb site is a valuable resource for students to find: • Resources for test and quiz preparation • Tutorials and additional practice opportunities on current topics of study • Graphing calculator tutorials • Due dates of upcoming assignments

  4. “Never Give Up” • 4. I encourage students each day to be persistent problem solvers and active learners. • Throughout the year in Geometry GT we will reinforce skills taught in Algebra I / Data Analysis. • Periodic graded warm-ups will provide students with feedback on their mastery of new and review skills. • Geometry GT may challenge students in ways they have not experienced in previous math classes… and that is good. • Help outside of class is available whenever a student asks: during Homeroom, Lunch, Afterschool, or Saturday Academy.

  5. Do That Homework ! • 3. Homework is assigned daily as a way to practice and extend concepts learned in class. • It should be completed independently, in a quiet place at home. • Students should keep their textbooks at home. • Most assignments should take about 30 minutes to complete. Some assignments, such as a test or quiz study guide, will take an hour.

  6. High School Recommendations • 2. High school recommendations from teachers will be completed in early January. • Students who are motivated to pursue GT level math in high school should demonstrate a high level of commitment to their work in Geometry GT. They should consistently earn good grades on tests and quizzes and should exhibit positive learning behaviors. • Students who consistently demonstrate difficulty with the material, earning C’s and D’s on tests and quizzes, may be recommended to repeat Geometry GT or take Algebra II regular in High School.

  7. Read the Textbook ! • 1. Lessons are generally taught in sequential order, according to the textbook. • Students should expect to read the textbook section before and/or after each lesson. • As quoted from the GT Geometry course description: “Geometry GT course requirements are rigorous, and students are expected to read extensively as a means of learning mathematics.”
