  2. What do you need to do in order to fully answer a question? (TTQA) Turn The Question Around. Write your answer in a complete sentence. Explain the reasoning behind your answer. Back up your logic with proof from the text, movie, or cartoon that you are discussing.

  3. Why do I need to do this? Knowing why you believe something or whereyou got the information builds logic and reasoning skills.

  4. Question:Let’s try this out! What is spellcheck used for? Why is spelling important?

  5. Answer time: Spelling is important because….. it can change the meaning of the sentence or the way it is understood by the reader. In the cartoon with the two witches, the incorrect spelling made the spell not work.

  6. Question: Think-Share with Class It is said that words have power. Why should we be careful in how we talk or text to one another?

  7. Example answer: If words have power, then we should be kind, or at least thoughtful, in the way that we speak to each other. In the cartoon, the witch says that she is “hexting” someone. This could be code for bullying someone through text messaging, which is unkind.

  8. “From the listless repose of the place, this sequestered glen has long been known by the name of Sleepy Hollow. Some say that the place was bewitched during the early days of the Dutch settlement; others, that an old Indian chief, the wizard of his tribe, held his powwows there before the country was discovered by Master Hendrick Hudson. Certain it is, the place still continues under the sway of some witching power that holds a spell over the minds of the descendants of the original settlers.” – “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow ” by Washington Irving “

  9. Reflect on the excerpt from “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” you just read and answer the following question on your own sheet of paper: What is said about the history of Sleepy Hollow that makes everyone who lives there so uneasy and superstitious? Cite textual evidence to support your response.

  10. First, share your responses with your Group Members. Next, a few of you will share your responses with the class.

  11. Breaking Down the Answer:What does the excerpt mention about the history of Sleepy Hollow that makes everyone who lives there so uneasy and superstitious? Cite textual evidence to support your response. The excerpt mentions that Sleepy Hollow might have been “bewitched during the early days of the Dutch settlement” or a place where the “Indian chief, the wizard of his tribe, held his powwows there.” These two statements could explain why everyone who lives there seems uneasy and superstitious.
