  1. Mission • World Vision International is an Evangelical Christian relief, • Development and advocacy organization dedicated to working with children, families and communities • Overcoming poverty and injustice.

  2. History • Dr. Bob Pierce saw an abandoned child in China and gave his last 5 dollars to the child’s teacher. • He recurrently sent 5 dollars over seas to ensure that the child was looked after. • This inspired him to build an organization that would address children’s needs across the world.

  3. Goals The long-term goal • Each child sponsorship project is to empower a community to become self-sufficient. • This transformation, from poverty to confidence and self reliance, • Usually takes 10 to 15 years. • At that time, with the goals of the project met, World Vision's role within the community comes to an end.

  4. Statistics • 1.1 Billion people word wide without fresh water. • 5 Million people die world wide due to water related diseases. • The number of people in the world who suffer from chronic malnutrition was 963 million in 2008
