  1. VIVA LAS VEGAS What we are going to do today: • Introduce you to the city of Las Vegas. -Basic statistics. -Population growth data. -Present energy situation.

  4. Statistics on gambling -The first casino, El Rancho Vegas, opened in April, 1941. -Average gambling revenue/year = 6,000,000,000 dollars. -Average visitor gambles $502 per trip.

  5. Hotel Statistics -126,610 total hotel rooms (entire population of Cincinnati could stay in Vegas at one time). -It would take a person almost 14 years to sleep in every room of the MGM Grand (5000 rooms).

  6. Wedding Statistics -Over 100,000 weddings are performed in Vegas each year. -You can buy a wedding license for $35, 24 hours a day on weekends

  14. Purpose -We want you to: 1.) demonstrate an understanding of energy sources and their effects on a community. 2.) show your ability to research, analyze, and evaluate a topic.

  15. Your Role -Each group will represent a team from a different power plant manufacturing company -You will work to convince the Las Vegas City Council to adopt your style of power plant using: 1. a written report 2. a presentation with visual aid

  22. PPRP- Rebuttals In your rebuttals, you will present at least one argument against each of the other power plant designs. The rebuttals will be on a separate page, after the conclusion. Each group member must write at least one rebuttal

  25. Responsibility List -This is a list of exactly what everyone is going to be doing on this project. It must include: 1. Which body paragraphs and rebuttals each person will write. 2. What each person will generally plan to do to make the Visual Aid and Presentation. 3. Everyone’s signature.

  27. Materials List -Each group will present a list of materials they plan to use in their presentation. -No group may spend more than $10, though if you are resourceful, you will spend nothing.
