  9. STEM Undergraduate Research • 47 researchers enrolled from fall 2010 through Fall 2013

  10. What did we do? • STEM Summer Adventure (20 students/year) • STEP Undergraduate Research for early career undergraduates (47 students total) • Student orientation and enrollment for incoming students focused on STEM identity and success • Faculty Development in Faculty Learning Communities

  11. Impact of STEP Grant • Primed university STEM faculty community to pursue new initiatives • Internally funded Program Transformation funding • NSF WIDER “PERSIST”

  12. Strategies for Sustainability • Connect to existing institutional culture • faculty development • Look for places where momentum built by the STEP grant can be transferred to related/synergistic activities • undergraduate research • Identify ways to create/sustain funding • summer adventure program

  13. Strategies for Sustainability • Implement changes that are compatible with current/emerging practice • changes to BroncoVenture orientation • preregistration • STEM student learning communities • Pay attention to what the next steps might be – seek further support (internal & external) • NSF WIDER grants • Internal program transformation grant • Build relationships and shared priorities that will last beyond the grant
