  3. 2001/02 ITS Report Card (cont’d) College of Architecture and Environmental Design

  4. 2002/03 Campuswide Needs • Address mobile computing issues: support, student ownership of computers, Citrix (campus site license), keyserved access to software for students. • Faculty development support: • Help to build a community of educators interested in technology and its appropriate use. For example, facilitate monthly meetings - possibly through the Center for Teaching and Learning. • Provide faculty support grants (similar to the summer research grants offered by the state) for innovations in teaching and learning. • We want the IMS group back (faculty development support). • Set up web forums for faculty and staff to discuss technology issues (hardware and software needs and recommendations). College of Architecture and Environmental Design

  5. 2002/03 Campuswide Needs (cont’d) • Presentation classrooms: • More, more, more. • More flexibility in scheduling – one-time uses and scheduling for laboratory courses. • Continued ITS support for GIS data and Internet map-serving data, including both storage space and personnel. • Support for OSX and OSX server. • On-demand instructional technology support. • CAED is very interested in using LDAP for student authentication for our servers. College of Architecture and Environmental Design

  6. 2002/03 College-Specific Needs • Develop a better partnership with ITS: • One-on-one instructional technology support. We would like an instructional technology support person assigned to the college to help with college-specific projects related to the appropriate use of technology in the classroom. • The CAED would like to invite an ITS representative to our weekly college Computer Instructional Technology Committee (CITC) meetings. • College-fee based initiatives: • We recommend that ITS help students include funding for support and infrastructure upgrades that might be necessary with purchases. • Improved mobile computing support. College of Architecture and Environmental Design

  7. 2002/03 Special Initiatives • Internet2 Plans: Video Streaming, GIS, Immersive Visualization, 3D Video, Objective Networks. • Construction management students will be required to purchase laptops starting next year. • An Integrated Project Delivery Minor will be offered next year. Requirements for this course include: • Sharing of files (AutoCAD and pictures) across the college and with industry partners across the globe. • Video-conferencing. • Three online courses are planned in the college: one in architectural engineering (summer 2002) and two in landscape architecture (fall 2002). Future courses are being considered. College of Architecture and Environmental Design

  8. Strategic Issues Beyond 2002/03 • Develop a group within ITS to explore and test new technologies related to teaching and learning and to publish their results campus-wide. This group should also support faculty interested in exploring new technologies. College of Architecture and Environmental Design
