Purpose of the program is to: • promote interest in transportation as a potential career, • show students how our transportation partners play an overall part in the community, county, and regional transportation operations, • provide skill-building opportunities during all phases of the program, and • provide assistance to our partners with talented individuals.

Chronological program details and mandatory requirements • Agency application deadline:Friday, December 10, 2010. • Student application deadline:Wednesday, March 9, 2011. • MANDATORY: ALL candidates must be interviewed. • Interns will be given 250 hours each • MANDATORY: Virtual Mentor OrientationThursday, June 9, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. and Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 2:30 p.m.

Chronological program details and mandatory requirements • MANDATORY: Intern OrientationThursday, June 23, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. • Program closes Friday, September 2, 2011 • Intern Schedule • MANDATORY: No overtime or driving for interns • MANDATORY: Intern Final Project • MANDATORY: Mentors and interns attend Intern Forum Thursday, July 28, 2011

  7. Attachment BIntern Request Form • Use the 2011 Intern Request Form only. • The Intern Request Form is in MS Word format. Submit completed form to MTC in MS Word format. • Write Internship Description in paragraph format; see Attachment C for examples. • The selection of an agency is partially determined by student interest; building skills and enrichment activities are a plus. • Deadline to submit this form: Friday, December 10, 2010 • Early submissions appreciated.

Chronological program details and mandatory requirements • Agency application deadline is Friday, December 10, 2010. • Student application deadline is Wednesday, March 9, 2011. • MANDATORY: ALL candidates must be interviewed in person or by phone. • Interns will be given 250 hours each. • MANDATORY: Mentors participate in one of the two half-hour virtual Mentor Orientation scheduled on Thursday, June 9, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. and Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 2:30 p.m. • MANDATORY: Interns attend Orientation, held at MTC, which is scheduled on Thursday, June 23, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.; Interns can start at their assigned agency any time after attending Orientation. • Interns have until Friday, September 2, 2011 (10-week period) to exhaust their hours. • Interns may work either part or full-time, up to a total of 8 hours per day and up to 5 days a week. Interns are employed on an hourly pay basis and subject to hourly work rules.

Chronological program details and mandatory requirements • MANDATORY: Interns work only part-time the first week. • Optional: Depending on the types of duties assigned, an intern may be scheduled to work part-time the second week as well (up to the discretion of the Mentor). • Interns from the third week and on may work part-time or full-time as scheduled between the Intern and Mentor. • MANDATORY: Interns are not to work overtime and are not allowed to drive a vehicle during work hours or for any work related reason. • MANDATORY: Final Project - Interns create three to five-minute Power Point presentation summarizing their experience gained from the internship and their understanding of how the agency they interned with plays an overall part in the community, county, and regional transportation operations. • MANDATORY: Mentors and interns attend the Intern Forum, held at MTC, which is scheduled on Thursday, July 28, 2011; Interns will present their final project and certificates will be presented to agencies and interns. This is an all-day, 8-hour event.
