  20. Achieve Texas Programs of Study • Programs of Study (POS) have been created for each of the 16 Career Clusters. The programs of study reflect current occupations and represent all 79 POS as cited on www.careerclusters.org.  Granbury ISD will offer several career clusters next year. • POS are designed for students but can also be used with administrators, counselors, teachers, business and industry representatives, and parents.  POS contain lots of helpful information, including the core courses and career-related electives in high school that will help prepare students for their career goals.  • The POS are based upon the Recommended High School Graduation Plan and can easily be adapted for the Distinguished Achievement High School Graduation Plan.

  21. Students can choose a favorite Career Cluster from below:

  22. Focus on developing: • Good Study Habits • Being Responsible • Making Positive Choices • Becoming Independent • Planning • Setting goals All freshmen students will need to meet with their school counselor to develop a high school 4-year plan.

  23. Look out for: • Attendance Concerns • Missing Assignments • Missing Credits—Credits are earned at the end of each semester • Missing Deadlines

  24. Rank and G.P.A. • Top 10% receive guaranteed admissions to Texas state universities except University of Texas at Austin (Top 8%) • Grade Point Average (G.P.A.) will be calculated on a 4.0 scale for all students. • Note: Pre-AP classes receive an additional 1.0 weighting for G.P.A. (5.0 scale) and AP and DC classes receive an additional 2.0 weighting (6.0 scale).

  25. Subject Load • GHS Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors will take 7 classes each term (Periods 1-7) • There is no Pirate Time at the high school; therefore you need to schedule time to study and complete homework.

  26. Subject Load? • Can high school students take advanced courses in all 4 core classes? • Answer is “yes”, however careful consideration must be given for the additional commitment. • A student could take a combination of PAP, AP, or DC • Suggestion: Keep it balanced, be aware of any other extra-curricular commitments. • What are advanced placement or dual credit courses?

  27. Pre-Registration • Freshmen counselors from CNGC will meet with 9th grade students again on January 23rd or 24th through your foreign language class to select 2013-2014 courses. • Career Day with guest speakers will be Friday, January 25th. • GHS Counselors will travel to CNGC to meet students and enter pre-registration choices with students the week of February 11th – 15th.

  28. Testing Opportunities • STAAR EOC – End of Course • PSAT – College Readiness (SAT) • PLAN – College Readiness (ACT) • SAT – College Admissions • ACT – College Admissions • ASVAB – Military • TSI - THEA/COMPASS/ACCU-PLACER
