A design is cut into linoleum with a sharp knife. The linoleum sheet is inked with a brayer. It is then pressed onto paper or fabric.

  3. Screen Printing How does Screen Printing work? • Screen printing was invented 1907 and is still used today. The stencil forms open areas of mesh, that transfers ink onto materials then a squeegee is moved across the stencil. It then pumps ink into the mesh openings.

  4. Gravure How does Gravure work? • Gravure was invented in 1930. It is still used for magazines, postcards and product packaging. An image is taken and then etched onto the surface of a metal plate, and then the area that has been etched is filled with ink. The plate is then taken and rotated

  5. Lithography How does Gravure work? • Lithography was invented in 1796 by a German author and actor Alois Senefelder. It is still used in some fine art print making applications An image is transferred photographically to thin plastic, paper or metal. A roller applies an oil-based ink and water Then the inked image is moved to a rubber blanket then onto the paper.

  6. Laser Printing How does Laser Printing work? • Laser printing was invented 1969 and are still being used today. Laser printing shoots a beam over a charged drum. The drum transfers the images to paper. The images then get heated to permanently fix the image

  7. Photocopying How does Photocopying work? • Chester Carlson invented Photocopying in 1938. It is still used today in many work places, schools and colleges. Charges of light first attract and then transfer toner particles onto paper in the form of an image. Heated pressure is then used to fuse the toner onto paper.
