  1. Public Health Emergency Preparedness The role of the CDHS Emergency Preparedness Office

  2. Components to Public Health Emergency Preparedness • Integrated, written plans and procedures • Trained and cross-trained staff • Medical resources • Drills and exercises • After action reports and corrective actions

  3. EPO Supports LHD Preparedness • Establishes the annual requirements for LHDs to receive CDC and HRSA grant funds • Provides training to LHDs on public health related topics • Supports CAHAN operations • Participates in drills and exercises

  4. LHD have been directed to: • Develop a pandemic influenza plan • Develop procedures for alerting and notification, risk communication, social distancing, mass prophylaxis and vaccination • Develop alternate care sites for medical surge

  5. As well as: • Provide leadership in the development of shelters for the medically fragile population • Provide leadership in identifying the actions to be taken to support isolation and quarantine

  6. LHDs have been directed to: • Coordinate with tribal entities • Invite tribal entities to meetings and planning sessions • Conduct joint drills and exercises • Add tribal entities to alerting and notification procedures • Very Important, coordinate risk communications/public information • What does this mean?

  7. Insuring Coordinated Planning How will CDHS ensure that LHDs have coordinated their emergency response planning with neighboring jurisdictions and tribal entities?

  8. CDHS Will Review and Approve the Plans • LHD Pandemic Influenza plans are due to CDHS EPO by June 15 • EPO will review and discuss findings with LHD • CDHS will ultimately approve LHD Pandemic Influenza plans • The review process will include ensuring coordinated emergency response planning with neighboring jurisdictions and tribal entities.
