  2. NSF Mission To promote the progress of science; to advance the national health, prosperity, and welfare; and to secure the national defense. Geosciences: GEO addresses the nation's need to understand, predict, and respond to environmental events and changes to use Earth's resources wisely.

  3. NSF Infrasound Workshop, June 24-25, 2003Selected Projects Studies of eruption processes in basaltic and andesitic volcanoes (Two submissions, to be changed) PI: M. Garces, University of Hawaii, Manoa Modeling the Generation and Propagation of Microbaroms (Rejected, new theory developed) PI’s: Ken Gilbert, University of Mississippi Milton Garces, University of Hawaii, Manoa Source studies of littoral infrasound (Rejected, related project with BBNT funded by DARPA) PI’s: Mark Merrifield, University of Hawaii, Manoa Milton Garces, University of Hawaii, Manoa Probing the ionosphere using dual-frequency GPS to identify the causes of long-period acoustic waves in the atmosphere and to study coupling between the lower atmosphere/solid Earth and the upper atmosphere PI’s: Michael Hedlin and Jean-Bernard Minster, University of California, San Diego Eric Calais and Jennifer Haase, Purdue University Infrasonic Remote Sensing of the Atmosphere PI: Ken Gilbert, University of Mississippi Collaborator: Douglas Drob, Naval Research Laboratory

  4. Studies of eruption processes, Takes 1 and 2 Kilauea Volcano, Hawaii Soufriere Hills Volcano, Montserrat REJECTED TWICE 2 Excellent 1 Very Good 2 Good Both Times:

  5. Studies of eruption processes, Take 3 Kilauea Volcano, Hawaii Mt. St. Helens, WA • Collaboration with USGS: CVO, HVO, Menlo Park • Letters of collaboration, contractual arrangement with GS

  6. Surf Infrasound NSF proposal submitted and rejected. Excellent data set collected under the auspices of DARPA, in collaboration with BBNT. TBC.

  7. Microbarom source characterization:Submitted, rejected, new theory developed

  8. Passive acoustic tomography of the atmosphere

  9. Possible New Project: Tsunami and Earthquake Infrasound Possible resonant triad source
