  3. What is Digital Storytelling • It takes the ancient art of oral storytelling and uses technical tools to weave a tale using images, graphics, music and sound mixed together with the author's own voice.

  4. Purpose: It’s more than just a presentation or report. Digital Storytelling is where students can make meaning out of information by making it personal. The information will include their feelings, their thoughts and possibly their experiences. Through the student’s digital story, others will be more connected to the information even though they didn’t investigate the topic because of the student’s deep understanding and how they presented the information.

Step 1 - Brainstorm an idea for your story *Are you trying to inform, convince, provoke, question? *Remember (2) “Unfolding lessons learned” in the Elements of Good Digital Story: A good story has a point to make, a moral conclusion, a lesson learned or an understanding gained. *Consider your audience and purpose!

  10. Step 2 - Develop a narrative script * Remember (3) “Developing Creative Tension” in Elements of Good Digital Story * Remember (4) “Developing Economizing the Story Told” in Elements of Good Digital Story

  12. Step 4-Collect or create images/audio for the story *United Streaming – has 1, 2, or 3-minute segments that can be edited and downloaded onto a folder on your computer. Rearrange them or join them with a narration, music or your point of view. Photos with licenses such as "public domain", creative commons or other free licenses. A new search engine for freely licensed photos. • Wilson Art Image Gallery - A rich digital resource of art images, rights-cleared for educational use. • NYPL Digital Gallery - NYPL Digital Gallery contains hundreds of thousands of digital images of historical materials from the Research Libraries' and Branch Libraries' original, rare, and specialized holdings. Images may be freely downloaded for personal, research, and study purposes only. • Brainy Betty - Very simply, you can download anything on this site for personal or business or educational use. • OpenClipArt.org - This project aims to create an archive of user contributed clip art that can be freely used. • U.S. Government Photos and Graphics - Most of these images and graphics are available for use in the public domain, and they may be used and reproducedwithout permission or fee. However, some images may be protected by license.
