  5. Program Components IRS- Information and Resource Services EPP- Employment Planning and Preparation JDPS- Job Development and Placement Support SJS- Summer Jobs Service

  6. Access to Services • IRS – open to everyone • EPP/JDPS –open to those over 16 However: Targets for colleges in 07-08 are Youth 16-24 9,444 Adults over 24 1,705 (15%) • SJS- 16-24 (29 with disability) returning to school in the fall

AS/SB • Apprenticeship Scholarship Signing Bonus • Client returns to school to upgrade education to qualify for an apprenticeship • Client on school completion is registered and placed as an apprentice • Client receives $1,000 scholarship • Employer received $2,000 signing bonus • Funding of 4.5 million to assist 1,500 clients

Client/Employer Financial Support EPP/JDPS - $200 training support dollars ( day care, boots, clothing, bus tickets) EPP/JDPS- $400- Internationally Trained and Apprentices ( credential assessment, specialty tools) JDPS- $4,000 Max over six months cap of minimum wage JDPS- $4,000 Max over twelve months ( New Canadians/Apprentices only) SJS - $2/ hour for up to 16 weeks Note: These are maximums and averages may be substantially less

  9. College Numbers 2006-07 • Job Placements 8,387 • Summer student placements 13,134 • Apprentice placements 769 • Individuals using resource centre 190,327 • Still employed at three months 69%

Barriers Faced by Clients • Poor education - less than high school • No drivers licence or access to a vehicle • Single parents or living with parents • Lack of motivation • Few skills to offer employers • Just need a job- no time to plan • Attitude- often poor • Feeling of despair • No resume, job search or inteview skills • Often no phone- or share with several room mates

Barriers“Continued” • High job expectations - not in tune with real world • Poor education and laid of from high paying labour job • No work history – lack of good references • Learning disability • Lack of access to funding for training • Poor Time Management • Inability to follow through • Difficulty in doing a cold call • Criminal record

  14. Resource Centres are located in: College campuses Storefront locations Malls Public Libraries High Schools Community centres Town business centres

  15. Resource Centres Free to all! Job Postings Labour market information Photocopy and fax access Computers/internet Workshops- resume preparation, job search interview skills, safety, WHMIS Job search and career exploration materials

  16. Employers Job Connect sites have a close working relationship with community employers This year college Job Connect sites will provide employers with approximately $ 20 million in training subsidies
