Tanzania Responsible Business Network What is our shared purpose? • To support the private sector to make a measurable contribution to sustainable development in Tanzania • To create a business operating environment in Tanzania that encourages integrity and sustainability • Priority given to business ethics and anti-corruption
Tanzania Responsible Business Network Our journey so far • June 2011… • Initial discussions with IBLF and GIZ • November 2011… • TRBN launched • February, April, November 2012… • Series of public seminars, panel discussions, presentations organised by TRBN • April 2013… • Workshop to discuss how to evolve TRBN and create Code of Ethics
Tanzania Responsible Business Network TRBN Code of Ethics • Public commitment to highest levels of integrity in members’ business activity • Mutual support and assistance among members to achieve this • Measuring success of each member’s commitment over time, with clear KPIs against which to be assessed
Tanzania Responsible Business Network Assessment / audit • Self-assessment, assessment and audit on the basis of TRBN Assessment & Reporting spreadsheet • Basic-level signatories commit to self-assessment, validated through selected interview questions • Advanced-level signatories commit to external assessment led by expert(s) through in-depth interviews
Tanzania Responsible Business Network Consequences in case of non-compliance • Aspiring status for the first time: requires advice and support by the TRBN Secretariat to achieve progress towards Compliant status • Aspiring status for two consecutive times: warning, made public within TRBN, additional advice and support • Aspiring status for three consecutive times: exclusion from TRBN membership for at least one year
