Dual Enrollment partnership • UW Colleges + UW Oshkosh + DPI • UW courses taught in HS by HS teachers • Face-to-face or online courses • Credits transfer to UW & possibly others • Affordable for students and school districts • Available statewide starting fall 2013 • Goal: make students more college-ready, more workforce-ready & expand access

UW Flex Option Program • A portfolio of degrees, certificates and courses drawn from current UW System’s existing programs. • Places competencies and student learning assessment at the core. • Takes best advantage of instructional materials available world-wide. • Optimally uses technology and face-to-face to provide maximum flexibility for learners.

  9. UW Flex Option Program How the Flex Option is different: • Not confined by semester planning • Self-paced format for the student • Students have to demonstrate mastery of competencies versus course to course work.

UW Flex Option Program How does it impact economic development? • UW-Extension is working closely with: • Industry to identify skills gaps and offer courses. • Department of Workforce Development to identify Wisconsin workforce needs. • Wisconsin residents will have the opportunity to get a degree and improve their standard of living.

Center for Community Technology Solutions • Brings the potential and economic benefit of broadband (high speed Internet) to Northern WI • Focuses on connecting communities and individuals to regional, national and global economies to successfully compete • In 2013 will focus on training and improving economic development thru access to broadband • Stems from UW-Extension broadband grants which helped connect Superior to Rice Lake and Chippewa Falls

Goals • COMMUNICATION: Raising the awareness of and commitment to economic development by the UW System. • CONNECTION: Identifying and building stronger connections that link UW System talent and research activities with established businesses, entrepreneurs, economic development agencies and other resources. • CAPITAL: Accelerating investment in UW-generated innovations so that ideas can be more rapidly developed and businesses can be built more quickly.
