  3. The dog barked, for he wanted to go outside. • What type of sentence is this? • COMPOUND! • How do you know it is a compound sentence? • IT HAS TWO SUBJECTS(DOG/HE) AND TWO PREDICATES (BARKED/WANTED) • THERE ARE TWO INDEPENDENT CLAUSES! • THE TWO CLAUSES ARE CONNECTED BY A FANBOY (FOR)

The dog that was in the street howled loudly. • What type of sentence is this? • COMPLEX! • How do you know it is a complex sentence? • IT HAS TWO SUBJECTS(DOG/THAT) AND TWO PREDICATES (WAS/HOWLED) • THERE ARE TWO CLAUSES, ONE INDEPENDENT AND ONE DEPENDENT! • THERE IS A DEPENDENT WORD MARKER (THAT)
