  1. If you're truly serious fund manager about your business, then you'll spend some time each week on business- building activities. The path to achieving this goal is marketing and advertising and it must be done all the time. One other way to go about doing this is with the power of networking, and you know what this means. If you're in a good size city, then there's a venture capitalist lot you can learn about in your community. We all make mistakes here and there, and that includes networking mistakes you may want to know beforehand. As you read about the following mistakes, think about how they fit into what you want to do. If you are meeting an important business contact, take the time to learn about them. If you can pencil in some quality face time with people from networking, then so much the better. How would you feel if the other person hit you with a hundred questions that are none of her business? Most businesses have a site on the web, and simply learning about the business from that medium will suffice. It is not okay to know about them when you seek them out to form a business relationship. It's a generally smart policy to not discuss gossip or negative things with other people you don't know. Even if the people don't know the person you're talking about, this is highly inappropriate. So if you do this and others are familiar with the name, then you don't know about the quality of the relationship. Any kind of gossip is insidious, and if you must talk about it then leave out the names. If you are bound and determined to meet the person and want to work the "we know the same person angle" you can still do that. There are so many ways to meet people just as long as the person's standing is not too great.
