  2. President’s Message While the early bird discount rate has passed, it is not too late to attend RIMS in Boston. The chapter will be well represented so you are bound to run into some familiar faces in sessions or evening events. As in the past, the Chicago Chapter will have tables reserved for the Monday morning opening session and the Monday awards luncheon. In the next several weeks, we should know the specific table numbers, but as a note, the reserved tables are usually toward the front. Our February chapter meeting discussed Black Swan events and coincidentally, a recent Aon seminar also covered these events along with other similar scenarios. However, if you haven’t heard enough about “Black Swans,” still don’t know what they are, can’t figure out where to find them, or what to feed a black swan when you do find one, the Keynote Luncheon speaker on Wednesday, April 28 in Boston will share some important points about these highly improbable events. I am excited about the speaker and topic for our March 15 chapter meeting. David Hallstrom, Technology Underwriting Director with CNA will discuss several aspects of cyber liability. Many chapter members have expressed interest in hearing more about this increasingly visible topic and it promises to be a valuable meeting. Details for this meeting are on page 5. Mark your calendars for the annual Hines Symposium on Tuesday, May 18 at the Union League Club. Details will follow once the committee finalizes the program. 2

  3. President’s Message (cont.) Alright, time to branch out into something new. People have different ideas of what group(s) make up their peers, especially in business, and a question was raised about networking opportunities between less experienced risk management professionals within our Chapter. Well, I am pleased to announce the “Non-Manager Networking Group” or whatever it will be called…once it actually has members. While parameters are not defined for this group yet, if you are interested in networking with Chicago risk management professionals and are not a “manager, director, VP, etc…” please click the below link to “register” as interested in the group. This event is listed as “Chicago Peer Group” on March 22 of the RIMS.org calendar, but there is no significance to the date/time of this “event” (i.e. no actual meeting). However, if you are interested, please sign up by March 22. Be sure not to simply click “Register Now” but then also select your name on the following page and click “Proceed with Registration.” Please note, this peer group is only open to the Deputy category of membership, which are individuals that handle risk management matters full-time for their organization.
