  2. What is neglect? • Neglect is the failure to provide necessary care, assistance, guidance or attention that causes, or is reasonably likely to cause the person physical, mental or emotional harm or substantial damage to or loss of assets.

  3. Abuse and neglect can take various forms • Name them?

  5. Case study - Alan is 13. he is always quarreling with his family. He never seems to be able to please them. His examination results are never good enough, they don’t like his friends and his mother does not approve of the clothes he chooses. Alan stays out late at night in order to avoid his father’s sexual advances, but for three out of seven nights his father forces him to have sex with him. • Alan’s relationship with his father is unacceptable. Describe the effect that this is likely to have on his personal development. How can Alan's friends have helped more in this situation? • What people could be turn to and what procedures should have followed once the situation is in the open at school?
