  3. Fashion Cycle • A regular round of styles that are fashionable over time and then eventually repeat themselves.

  5. Fashion Leaders High fashion = the latest or newest trends • Top quality • Fine workmanship • Beautiful fabrics • Expensive • Originate from name designers in leading fashion cities • Worn by the wealthy or famous people

Who are the fashion leaders? • Men, women and young people with enough status and credibility to start new styles • They are not afraid to wear something before everyone else does • Who are the fashion leaders for teens? • Lady Gaga? Taylor Swift? • Michael Jackson? Beyonce? • Jennifer Lopez? • Justin Bieber?

The Swing of Fashion Popularity • 10 years before time = vulgar/indecent • 5 years before time = bold/shameless • 1 year before its time = flashy/daring • When it is in fashion = elegant/smart • 5 years after its time = tacky/dowdy • 10 years after its time = outrageous • 20 years after its time = funny • 100 years after its time= charming

What influences your fashion choices? • On your own paper, answer • How influenced are you by what celebrities wear? • How influenced are you by how much an item costs? • How influenced are you by the style of the garment and how it reflects your values? i. e. No low necklines because you value modesty 4. How influenced are you by what your peers wear?

  12. Self Reflection • Rate the influences on your clothing choices: 1 to 5 with one being the most influential, 5 being the least…. Economics – How much money you have Popular fashion trends Your values and attitudes Favorite celebrities in TV, movies, music What looks good on you What you like

  13. Future Fashions – In a group of 3 or 4 students, discuss: • What do you think the senior high students will be wearing to school in the year 2021? • Will there be a dress code? If so, what? • What kinds of hair styles will the students be wearing? • What hair coloring products, perfumes, hair accessories will be popular? • What will the fads be in clothing styles? Why do you think this will happen? • How will clothing and clothing purchases be different in the future? Why do you think this will happen?

  14. Assignment: • Design an outfit for the year 2021. • Be creative, and use your imagination. • Use model forms to sketch in pencil first, then use colored pencils to add color. DUE: Monday, December 12th
